Darke County Education

Educational Opportunities

Excellent technical training and partnerships with business are two keys to our quality workforce. Darke County students have access to the areas most comprehensive technical and career education programs. Many county businesses are saving money on training costs by taking advantage of the numerous area employee training programs.

Edison Community College Expands to New Darke County Campus

Edison College recently moved its Darke County Campus to 601 Wagner Avenue. The move more than doubled the floor space, allowed for two additional computer labs, a video conference room, a dedicated learning lab and a manufacturing lab.

The move also means more courses and programs, including additional technical courses in engineering technology and computer information technology.

Lab facilities at the Wagner Avenue location enable Edison to offer, for the first time, Darke County courses in plastics manufacturing, engineering graphics and hydraulics and pneumatics. In addition, 200-level prerequisites for the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineering (MCSE) Program are also available. Full associate degree programs in business management and human services also can be completed at the Darke County Campus.

The Campus offers credit and non-credit classes in a variety of areas. Edison also offers training and educational programs tailored to meet the needs of business. Programs include employee assessment and training, onsite classes, customized company training, and certificate or degree programs.

Edison Plastic Program
Edison Community College is the premier trainer for the plastics industry in the region and a leading provider of manufacturing training. The full array of training equipment will ensure that no employee has to leave the area to upgrade skills.

Edison already provides extensive training to several area plastics manufacturers. All training is customized to meet the specific needs of the employer. One firm reported a 4 percent increase in its bottom line due to efficiencies created through Edison training.

Sinclair Community College
In Dayton, Sinclair offers over 150 contract training programs for companies in the Miami Valley. The Corporate Community Services division offers on site or campus training. For more information visit Sinclair College online

Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC)
MVCTC offers full-time and part-time vocational and technical courses and programs. On-site training, apprenticeship program assistance, job profiling and assessment are also available to Darke County business and industry. For more information visit MVCTC online.

Upper Valley JVS Applied Technology Center
A wide variety of training opportunities are available to meet the needs of business and industry. UVJVS serves many area businesses and industry with computer, industrial, and human resource training. For more information visit UVJVS online.

Greenville High School

Nearby Universities
There are many fine Universities near Darke County. These include the University of Dayton, Wright State University, Ball State University, Indiana University, Miami University, and Bowling Green State University (Celina Campus).

Business and Education Partnerships
Darke County businesses have become involved in the education process through Business-Education Partnerships. In addition, a new Sinclair College and Edison State project is implementing innovative new school-to-work concepts that prepare students for today's dynamic workforce. Darke County recently began implementation of an additional school-to-work pilot program funded through educational grants.
