GREENVILLE – Staff members at Wayne HealthCare have been talking about it for the past few years, but now the talk is over and construction has begun on a new addition to the local and independent hospital. Over the course of the next year-and-a-half, residents will see a continual change in the landscape around the current the facility. When completed by the end of 2020, workers will have finished a 75,000 square foot expansion and departments will be preparing for their new home.

Wayne Deschambeau, president and CEO of Wayne HealthCare, greeted approximately 100 guests on Tuesday at a groundbreaking ceremony for the addition. “About 100 years ago,” he said, “people had an idea that we needed a hospital.” A few years later, in 1922, Greenville Hospital opened. The hospital has since witnessed numerous additions and a change of name. The first major addition was completed in 1930 and subsequent additions were finished in 1941, 1957, 1971 and 1973. In 2010, Wayne HealthCare completed a $47 million, 98,000 square foot addition that changed the landscape and the look of the facility. That addition included a new surgical center, ER and an Imaging/Cardiopulmonary Center. In 2017, the Senior Behavioral Health Unit was added to the second floor.

This new addition will continue to build on Wayne HealthCare’s mission to provide quality care and promote wellness, close to home......
